International Effect: Issue One … And then there was one!

Four rookies entered the Extreme Title Tournament, amidst the decorated veterans of WWA, in hopes of advancing in a competition that would crown the new Extreme Champion; a title that has lain vacant for almost two months now after a career ending injury sidelined the Chuckster. Yet, now, through the broken tables, bashed windows, lighter fluid, and countless stretchers used to cart out battered and bruised bodies from arena, only one remains; a man born of a little town in Mexico named, Julio De Hoyas.

After signing with the WWA, just a week after the Labor Day Brawl, the man dubbed La Sombra by his countrymen, caught the eye of a few superstars in the back. He seemed to fit into the flow of things; as if competing on this grand of a scale just came naturally to the young, third generation superstar. As if stepping onto the massive stage that WWA represented was meant to be. It appeared only natural that his spotlight hungry manager, Brack Conway, saw an opportunity for La Sombra in the Extreme Title Tournament that was announced after his tryout match. With a stage of events that this tournament represented it was the perfect opportunity for him to guide La Sombra into the focus. La Sombra, however, had different ideas about his involvement in the event set to conclude at what the Mexican superstar calls: Día De Los Muertos. The Day of the Dead.

“It’s no secret that I am not a fan of the Hardcore styling of this tournament. You can give me a regular match any day of the week over the promise of being able to bludgeon my opponents with foreign objects. As much as the thought of walking out of this tournament with a title around my waste might entice most people, I am walking to this for the competition and the fame. Most superstars wait years to capture their first title in organizations such as this, much less win a tournament featuring some of the finest talent this side of the globe. An opportunity to make it to an event on el Dia de los Muertos would be a crowning achievement for my yet-to-be-written career.”

Indeed, still left in this event were Jonathon Winters, Vex, Jimmy Zion, Armaan, Kid Cool, and Khaled. Even with the dominating performance it took to overcome Armani Decano in the opening round, things look grim for the only remaining rookie in the tournament, as Kid Cool and Khaled still remain in his side of the bracket. Will La Sombra be able to overcome the odds and meet his goal of the nationally televised event set for the Day of the Dead? As impressive as La Sombra’s debut match turned out to be you are going to have to tune into future Meltdowns to find out. La Sombra’s manager did, however, leave us with these daring words.

“Do yourself a favor and pencil La Sombra in for the ninth of November. No questions asked. A man with the talent, skill, and experience that this kid possesses is going to need nothing short of a runaway train to slow him down. The question is not about what La Sombra is going to do now that he is in the WWA. The real question is about how the World Wrestling Alliance has survived for so long with out him.”
