The former WWA Champion returns for the rebirth, can he cap his return by winning Best of the Best?
Rankings
(The echoed voice of Vik Ventressa overbears the crackling of the fire, as he sits deep in thought.)
What the fu*k happened?
One minute I’m on top of the Fleet Centre, nearly throwing Denrol off the top… the next I’m laid out by some punk who hasn’t got the nerve to show his face…
Who could have done it?
The entire WWA talent roster was in Europe. Warr wouldn’t count a flight back to the US for a run in as a tax deductible expense…
Why would they do it?
I’ve made no enemies since returning. I’ve made it clear that all I want to do is make some friends. I’ve kept to my own business. I’ve been focussed solely on Denrol. And someone lay’s us out without provocation?
Where does that leave me?
This was supposed to be the big finale. The match to end all matches. The concluding chapter in Vik Ventressa versus Denrol. And it ended up like Donnie Darko. No-one really knows what happened.
What do I do now?
I’m in complete agony… I can’t fight Denrol again on Monday, that match nearly killed the both of us. It just wouldn’t; be the spectacle we wanted. How could such a promising start to my return turn so sour?
(The chain of thought stops into the fire. We see held in his hand photographs of the match. The one most obvious is where Vik is stood cradling Denrol over the edge of the arena.)
I was moments away from ending it.
(He tosses the photograph into the fire to see the next one. Vik gripping Denrol by the wrist, pulling him to safety)
But I couldn’t finish the job.
(He tosses it into the fireplace like the one before. The ink runs and the edges sear before it ignites fully, burning directly on Vik’s face in the image. The next photo in hand is Denrol kicking out of Vik’s pin.)
I saved his life and it cost me the match. It cost me all I’ve wanted for the past two years.
(Again, he tosses it to the flames. Leaving the image of Vik and Denrol out cold in the stairwell, pinning each other.)
And the culmination of everything I came back for was pulled away from the both of us.
(Vik throws the picture on the fire again. The edges start to singe,)
Is this the end?
(But just as you’d expect it to ignite, something strange happens. The Photograph flies off of the fire and lands on the stone hearth. Vik raises an eyebrow.)
I guess not…
