The former WWA Champion returns for the rebirth, can he cap his return by winning Best of the Best?
Rankings
San Francisco Daily News-- In only his third match with the World Wrestling Alliance, "The Lion" John Grant of San Francisco outlasted five other men to win a six-man elimination match for the WWA United States Heavyweight Championship. The previous week, Grant teamed with Jevon White to defeat Intrepid and Scotty Carnage, and the WWA administration was so impressed with his performance that they granted him the title shot. At 17 years old, Grant is thought to be the youngest champion in WWA history, and one of the youngest champions in the history of North American professional wrestling on a national scale.
"It's the greatest feeling imaginable," Grant told Daily News reporter Brian Fox following the match. "It felt so great to go out there and be so appreciated by thousands of wrestling fans who've barely even seen what I'm capable of yet. To win the second-highest championship in the company in only my third match... it's gonna take a little while for me to really digest it."
There will be no rest for the weary, however. Next week, Grant will make his initial defense of the title by facing the man he last eliminated in the six-way contest, RJ Stone. Grant had nothing good to say about Stone when prompted: "He's a spiteful, vindictive man who's far better at fighting defenseless women than battling his foes in the ring. I beat him tonight, and next week I'm gonna do it again, title on the line. And he's going to start noticing a pattern-- every time he faces me, he's gonna get beaten from pillar to post."
