The former WWA Champion returns for the rebirth, can he cap his return by winning Best of the Best?
Our scene opens with the image of our hero as it were Tobias Devereux in his black leather trench coat hiding the cast upon his arm. He’s also wearing his trademark fedora and has a cigarette hanging out the corner of his lips. It’s unlit as he’s inside a building, he’d been trying to quit but finding it to be difficult. Tobias found himself in an office building sitting across from a group of suits. Tobias prided himself on his sense of style. His red silk dress shirt and black jeans combo for example was one of his favorites. However this group made him feel under dressed and a little nervous. Most likely because they all wore three piece suits that looked more expensive than some of Tobias’ vehicles. He found himself before this committee because some wanted to make sure he was medically capable to compete and more so that he wouldn’t sue the company if his injuries grew more serious due to his competing.
Tobias: Gentlemen, shall we get the show on the road? From what my lawyers have informed me this is simple signing procedure. You just need me to sign off on a few forms stating that it’s not your fault if ole Tobias gets hurt big time out there. That’s fine with me, I don’t want your money, I just want to be out in front of the fans and do what I do.
Lawyer1: That’s fine with us Mr. Devereux, we’re just following regulations.
Tobias: No you mean you’re covering your ass, but nobody can blame you for that now can they? So let’s get the show on the road.
Lawyer1: Quite…
The lawyers slide across some papers for Tobias to look through and sign. He takes his time flipping through a few of them skimming the pages as he does so.
Lawyer2: As you can see it pretty much just states that you’re already injured and have decided to go against medical advice and still compete.
Tobias: Well it was suggested I stayed out for a while longer, not mandatory.
Lawyer2: We’re aware of that Mr. Devereux; if it was mandatory we wouldn’t be having this situation. Still it was advised that you stayed out for a longer time than you’ve deemed necessary. Therefore you are going against medical advice.
Tobias: Fair enough
Lawyer2: So by competing you’re aware that you may sustain additional injury that could lead to serious medical conditions and possibly even death.
Tobias: Death? Come on now Mon Amie, it’s just a little arm issue, I don’t think I’ll die from that.
Lawyer2: As unlikely as it may be that is what the paper work says Mr. Devereux.
Tobias: Whatever we need to do.
Tobias pulls out a pen from his inside coat pocket and starts signing away on the paper work. Making little notes here and there as needed. Once he’s done he puts his pen back up and stands up. The lawyers stand up as well as all parties shake hands. Tobias grins at them and smirks a little, so WWA here I come yet again.
Everyone always asks themselves certain questions when life gets harder. Is this worth it? Do the benefits outweigh the consequences? These are simple logical questions one would expect. Yet for some these questions are easily answered. For Tobias Devereux these questions might as well not exist. He had no desire to back down. No inclination to step away, no fear of what may come for him. He just knew what he wanted and how to get there. All pain between those two was just simply necessary evils. So although his arm was still broken it wasn’t that surprising that he was getting back into the ring. Cast or no cast, hundred percent or fifty percent, he would not turn away from a fight.
This all started at the Independence Day Rumble, more exactly when he did not win it. There had been some bets placed, some people who had a lot of faith in the promise by Tobias to win the whole thing. Unfortunately he did not win and thusly they lost a lot of money. Money that they decided to take out of Tobias’ hide. He focused too much on the outside issues and ended up falling to Intrepid, who took no mercy upon him. Not that Tobias Devereux was the type to ask for any. After the beating by Intrepid, Tobias slinked away to his hotel room for the night. Intending to drink away his pain and forget his stupid mistakes, Tobias was clumsy and didn’t pay close enough attention to his surroundings. Before he knew it he was surrounded by several men in the hallway leading towards his room. The beating would last for an hour give or take. Several bruised ribs, a broken arm, a dislocated shoulder, and a few burns later Tobias found himself in the hospital recuperating.
The doctors had refused to give him clearance to return to the WWA at first. So for a few weeks he would have to sit on the sidelines and watch as the wrestling world quickly forgot who he was. It didn’t matter that he was in the final four of the IDR, he was quickly beaten in singles match afterwards and now off screen completely. In a world that has a very short attention span he was already fading away. Now Tobias is a many of things but nothing quite more so than an attention whore. Maybe it was making up for the lack thereof as a child, but Tobias Devereux loved to be in the spotlight. Through a lot of hoops and determination though Tobias was finally cleared to return. His return wasn’t the spectacle he would have wanted but he couldn’t really blame them. They barely remembered who he was, which was something he’d have to fix.
First on the list to fix this was simple enough, win his match against Mason and The Student. Funny enough the student was a disciple as it were of Intrepid the last man he had fought. A man some though he’d be able to defeat only to let his concentration slip at the last moment and taste bitter defeat. He was focused this time around though and this Student certainly wasn’t the ruthless beast that Intrepid was. Tobias was confident in his ability even if he wasn’t a hundred percent. He knew he’d give the crowd a good show and prove that they should know who Tobias Devereux was.
