Identity Crisis: Chapter II The Painmaker

(A shot of Randy Cross)

Nikodemous

(Nik Seiger holding the belt)

Outlaw

(Pinning Denrol)

Tracer Bullet

(Trent LeBeaux, the detective, standing tall)

The Tomorrow Man

(Jackson Kraven stares with those menacing eyes.)

The Prototype

(Ian Tense, clutching the World Title, with destruction all around.)

Alex Knight

(A close up of Alex, the face is blank and devoid of emotion. The eyes are cold and distant. The smirk that once lay beneath his nose no longer there, only a glum look marks where it once resided. But as we stare harder and wait long enough, the lips move and he speaks.)

All of those men, each and everyone owns a place in WWA history. Each man has reached the pinnacle, some more times that others and one man for longer than anyone in history. Not all of them are finished. Not all of them are satisfied and not all of them will return. But they all have something…

Their name amongst champions.

(A quick flashing of images, each slide showing the champions of old.)

The satisfaction that they have given all they can.

(A panning shot of Ian Tense lying amongst the debree post-Birthday Bash ‘02. Lying next to him, the defeated Tracer Bullet.)

The knowledge that if they wish they can rise again. Show once again why they were at the top and prove that they can still beat anyone who steps in their path.

They have something more. Each one of them has something to serrate them from the other. A champion here, is the opposite to a champion there. Each one possess the definitive factor that makes them so memorable.

Identity.

(Alex pauses for a moment, as the word echoes around the black room.)

1. the condition of being a specified person or thing.
2. the state of being IDENTICAL, absolute, sameness.
3. the nothingness. See; Knight, Alex.

(Looking into the mirror, he breathes onto it, leaving a cloud of condensation. He moves he’s finger over the mirror, drawing a question mark.)

I have been so caught up with becoming a WWA superstar, becoming a part of the seven year legacy and even more so, a future great. So focused on getting myself here, yet I still haven’t arrived. Just another name on the roster and a bland one at that. Losing to Cameron does not trouble me, it was the performance that gave me the satisfaction I crave in the ring. For it is that which I can call upon when it is needed most, rather than rely on a friend or a chunk of tights that might just not work the third or fourth time.

In the ring I am content, improving but content.

Out of the ring, I may as well still be in the EWA, for I go unnoticed. Nothing out of the norm. Just another cable guy, someone to look down upon. Jon Doe, Joe Bloggs…it matters not, as long as I remain an unknown I will never be happy.

(But what can he do?)

I have to look within myself, as contrived and pretentious as it sounds, I have to rediscover who I am in WWA, instead of relying on who I was with my former employers. Not only do I have to reinvent myself for the WWA fans in order to ‘get over’ but I have to make sure I don’t go unnoticed by the WWA high brass, the guys in charge of my career and how it is allowed progress.

(But how can he do what?!)

It starts now. And it starts with Joey K. By Monday 11th I will already have my choices but after Monday 11th I will have made my intentions clear. For each of the aforementioned men had to start somewhere. Each of them had to capture gold before they were truly taken seriously and that is what I must do.

(Once again Alex breathes on the mirror and before the condensation can evaporate once more, he initials all over it; US, TV, GX and IC.)

US Title. Owner, Grunge. Unattainable.

(Alex wipes it out.)

TV Title. Owner, Lockdown. Unattainable.

(Once more it wipes it out.)

GenX Title. Owner, Dave Harley. With time.

(He puts an asterix above it.)

IC Title. Owner, Vacant. The opportunity is there.

(He underlines it.)

There lie’s the answer to how. I have been plunged into a tournament for a title that I have no right to win. A title that I have no real chance of winning…apparently. So what is there to lose? I have no undefeated record. No reputation to protect. No allies to look out for. As i’m sure a philosopher once put it; “When you have nothing, you can lose nothing.”

Nothing to lose. Only something to gain.

(As the mirror starts to cloud up, we can barely make out Alex spitting the last words.)

No chance Joey.

No chance Alex.

No identity.

(Fade to cloud.)
