Steven Mason Strategy

Steven Mason
Basics
Wrestling Style Technical and Submission
Moveset

Mason's favoured tactic in a match is to wear the opponent down with suplexes, DDTs etc and then start applying tiring submission holds.

Trademarks

The Boardwalk (Finisher)

The Boardwalk is a variant of the Boston Crab, very rarely escaped from. Mason lifts the opponent's legs agonisingly close to being vertical, and at the same time crushes one foot into the opponent's lower back to maximise pressure.

The Turnpike

The Turnpike is essentially a standing arm lock (arm held upwards behind the opponent's back), which is then lifted and transformed into a slam very similar to a Spinebuster.

Technical

All basic, generic moves

Suplex and variants (inc. Snap Suplex, Cobra Clutch Suplex, Full Nelson Suplex, Sleeper Suplex as Mason's favourites)

Double Underhook Backbreaker

Backbreaker Drop

European Uppercut

All strikes etc

Submission

Arm Triangle Choke

Guillotine Choke

Rear Naked Choke

Sharpshooter

Cobra Clutch

Shoulder Claw

Finisher Name The Boardwalk
Finisher Description

Named after the landmark in Mason's hometown, The Boardwalk is essentially a vicious Boston Crab hold. As an expert submission wrestler, Mason applies a standard Boston Crab and then holds it with such rigour that the opponent's legs are near-vertical. Very rare for an opponent to release from it.

(The familiar opening riff of Jimi Hendrix's 'All Along The Watchtower' spreads around the arena, and the lights over the audience flash between black and white, as a modest figure appears at the top of the ramp. His head stays facing downwards, and his eyes continue firmly locked on the floor as he begins to wander down to the ring without particularly acknowledging the audience.)

[There must be some kinda way out of here

Said the joker to the thief...]

Jack: I'm pretty sure this is the WWA's most recent signing, a man who goes by the name of...Steven Mason.
Fat Tony: My favourite part was when you paused just then so that you could get told his name in your earpiece.

(Mason reaches the ring and, with no hint of hesitation, rolls under the bottom rope. The crowd continue in their quiet manner, unaware of how to react to Steven Mason. He stands straight up, wandering instantly over to the far corner and leaning against the turnbuckle, awaiting the arrival of his opponent.)

Jack: He doesn't have much to say for himself.

General Strategy

Steven Mason is 6ft 2 tall and packs an above average amount of muscle, but does not wrestle as a powerhouse by any means. His strength is an asset, however; it allows him to gain the upper hand in grapples and deploy his favoured technical style of wrestling. Suplexes and choke holds are his favoured manoeuvres as well as strike moves, and he likes to deploy these until his opponent is worn down. At this point, he will usually attempt to finish the match by means of submission; his finishing move The Boardwalk, a variant of a Boston Crab, is his trademark finisher.

There is no brawling style to his wrestling, nor is he a high-flyer; do not be surprised, however, if he brings out the occasional high-flying move during an important match as a high-risk, high-reward manoeuvre.

Spot 1

(Steven Mason gets to his feet quickly, staring down at X with a concentrated anger. X leaps at Mason once again, but this time Mason reacts quickly, jumping slightly sideways and transforming the movement into a DDT position. He falls quickly backwards, putting X to the mat with a Snap DDT out of nowhere.)

Fat Tony: Oh! That came out of nowhere!

Jack: Certainly an impressive counter.

(X rises to his feet relatively quickly, and the pair instantly lock into a grapple. X looks to be coming out on top in a Suplex position, but Mason delivers a stiff knee to X's midriff. As X buckles, Mason lifts him backwards into the air, dropping him down in a Suplex. He follows this reversal with an early pin attempt.)

One...

Tw- Kick out!

Jack: Never had a chance!
Fat Tony: Can't blame a guy for trying.

Spot 2

(Mason grabs X by the arm and throws him into the corner of the ring. X rebounds ever so slightly off the corner and, with Mason already coming back at him with momentum, succumbs to a clothesline which puts him prone on the mat. Mason looks down at his opponent, before quickly deciding upon his next move.)

Fat Tony: Mason is going to the mat. What's he going to do?

(Mason lies in front of X, and grabs his opponent's legs. He quickly and efficiently locks them into his own and, when he is set up, leans backwards and strains.)

Jack: He's put X in a Figure Four Leg Lock!
Fat Tony: X is in trouble...

Spot 3

(Mason and X begin to exchange left and right hooks in the middle of the ring, waiting for the right moment to take advantage. Mason delivers two stiff left hooks followed by a right upper cut. He leaps at X, ready to pounce, but X is able to duck under Mason's advancing arms. He sneaks around Mason's back, putting his arms around his waist and lifting him over in a backdrop.)

Jack: Reversal!

(Mason rises awkwardly to his feet, but he is able to anticipate the oncoming clothesline from X. He ducks under the arm, grabbing it and moving it behind X's back in one swift movement. He pushes it up, causing X to shout out in surprised agony.)

Fat Tony: Mason has got an arm lock in!
Jack: I think this is some sort of trademark move coming up...

(After several seconds causing pain to his opponent, Mason suddenly thrusts his tired opponent into the air and, whilst he is mid-air, swoops around the front and throws X down in a Spinebuster-esque slam.)

Jack: X is out cold!

Fat Tony: That's The Turnpike!
