| Appearance |
Harley is large and muscular. His chiselled physique is only broken by a few lines of scar tissue - remnants of the hardcore battles that were characteristic with his youth. He wears shoulder length dark brown hair and sports a soul patch on his chin. |
| Ring Attire |
Harley wears black wrestling tights with Extreme Machine written in silver down the sides. A dark blue lightning bolt also runs down each leg. He wears an arm brace on his left elbow, heavily taped. He does not wear elbow pads or knee pads. To the ring, he usually wears a T Shirt emblazoned with the 'Harley 435' logo on it. |
| Personality |
Harley is a showman, first and foremost. He likes to showboat and uses his cocky manner to get under his opponents skin. He loves to have a good time in the ring, which is reflected in some of his match choices (particularly Tokyo Showdown, which saw Harley in a King Kong outfit take on an opponent dressed as Godzilla in a scale model of Tokyo!) However, although Harley is charismatic, this can sometimes be overshadowed by his huge ego. He can be a gloater and has been prone to jealousy in the past. When the ego is unleashed, the fallout can be disastrous. A Harley scorned is a ticking time bomb of rage. |
| History |
Dave Harley grew up in a suburb of Chicago. Although his parents were not wealthy, they gave their son all the money he needed for a good education. He studied long hard hours and was top of every class. Naturally, Dave Harley became the target of school bullies. He was small and weak and rarely stook up for himself, preferring to take a beating rather than give one himself. He longed to be big and strong like the wrestlers he watched on TV at weekends. He hoped one day to be as tough and confident as his heroes in order to stand up for himself and teach his bullies a lesson. He scrutinised every leg drop and every suplex in order to one day command the same respect his heroes were awarded. This would eventually lead to a schoolyard incident in which Dave Harley broke a fellow schoolmates nose - tiring of constantly being bullied, he lashed out at his tormentors, head butting him in the nose and DDTing him on the hard schoolground concrete. The bullying ceased but Harley began to neglect his studies, preferring to wrestle in the far corners of the schoolyard than attend classes. His strength began to increase as his work declined - it was evident that Harley was more interested in wrestling than he was in his education. When his parents found out about this he was banned from watching any wrestling until his grades returned to his previous standard. In the months that followed, his work greatly improved. During the day he was the model student, but every night after school he could be found sitting in his bedroom, reading wrestling magazines, watching the televised events or working out so that someday soon he could be just like his heroes. Of a weekend, Harley would see whatever live wrestling he could possibly see, but on his way home, Harley would walk through the dark streets of Downtown Chicago in the hope of starting a fight. Any thugs who believed this sixteen year old kid to be an easy target were surprised to learn that Harley was more than capable of holding his own. By mimicking the moves he had watched week in and week out on TV, Harley quickly gained a reputation amongst the Dowtown residents, earning him the nickname 'The Extreme Machine'.
At the age of eighteen, Harley was on his way to the University of Detroit Law School. However, he began to neglect his studies again, preferring to work out at a gym in the downtown area. Without his parents' authority to keep him on track, Harley found himself working for a local promotion setting up the ring instead of attending lectures. He befriended the promoter and began training at the family gym (that of the Carnage Family) It would not be long before Dave Harley was kicked out of Law School. His parents, disappointed that their son would rather wrestle than become a lawyer, disowned him, forcing Harley to take up residence in the apartment above the Carnage Gym - not that that bothered him much.
'The Extreme Machine' had his first professional wrestling match at the age of nineteen against Jonny Carnage, the promoters son. Striking up a friendship, the two soon left the US for Japan, touring together as a tag team. However, Carnage's size and charisma was rewarded with fan adulation, whilst Harley grew evermore bitter towards his partner. Returning to the US, Carnage began to wrestle in the singles division, with Harley at ringside. The fans adored Jonny Carnage but booed his partner Dave Harley. Carnage recieved a try-out for the WWF/WWE, whilst Harley struggled to find independent bookings. This all came to a head at an indie show which pitted Dave Harley against his long-time partner Jonny Carnage. In what is frequently regarded as one of the most brutal one-sided victory of all time, Harley decimated his partner, finally using The Harley Bomb finisher to throw Carnage straight through the ring, ending his career and placing him in a wheelchair for life.
Harley went to the EWA, where he wrestled as 'Dave Deadly'. Still bitter that he was not wrestling for the big leagues, he pushed himself to new extremes week after week to prove how talented he was. Dave Harley eventually triumphed in a Triple Threat Windy City Brawl, becoming the EWA Extreme Champion and finally beating EWA rival Mal 'The Chairman' Somers. But a week later, the EWA closed its doors; meaning Dave Harley was unable to defend his newly crowned title.
Through EWA promoter, Phil Flaws, Harley came to the attention of the World Wrestling Alliance. Setting aside his differences with EWA colleague Mal Somers, the two founded the Extreme Corporation (X Corp). Together, they would eliminate rival tag team The Cell in a Hell In The Cell Match (which involved the cage catching fire and burning down!) From there, the team branched in to singles matches, with Harley capturing the Extreme and Television Titles before taking on Mal Somers in a friendly encounter at Rage In The Cage (the first ever No Gimmick Gimmick Match) for the Intercontinental Title. X Corp went from strength to strength, but a new power rose through the ranks to take control of the WWA. Ian Tense and Leviathan joined forces to create the Devil's Own - one of the most devastating heel teams in WWA history. Waging war against X Corp, Harley went toe to toe with Tense. If he lost, he would be forced to join Devil's Own. Harley was defeated and left X Corp to become a slave to Ian Tense. Finally, putting everything on the line, Harley fought Tense's Champion, Leviathan - the winner would take control of Devil's Own. Harley was victorious and vowed to dismantle the heel outfit. Later that night, Mal won the World Title for the first time. The following noght on Meltdown, Harley came out to congratulate his partner. But he blindsided him, savaging Mal and making his intentions known as the new Devil's Own leader. The WWA was in shock. The Devil would have his day. He placed a restraining order on Somers, preventing his former partner from seeking vengeance. At the Birthday Bash 2004, Harley scaled the WWATron. With a police-restrained Mal Somers looking on, Harley raised the World Title for the first time. He would hold the Title for a 7 month reign of terror over the WWA, which ended when Tracer Bullet led a WWA rebellion against the Devil's Own and captured Harley's belt, banishing Harley for a temporary hiatus. Upon his return, Harley was not humbled. Instead, he blamed the fans for his downfall and unleashed a returning Damian Thorne to the WWA as his mentor. WWA fans and superstars alike could see Harley was being used as a puppet. When Harley finally broke free of Thorne's spell, a brutal match was on the cards for Rage In The Cage X. Following his feud with Thorne, Harley rejoined Mal Somers and X Corp was reborn. During this period, Harley aggravated an existing ligament injury. He was advised to undergo surgery and, following a feud with Kade Williams, left the WWA to recover. Presuming his career was at an end, Harley moved to Hollywood and began a lucrative movie career, starring in blockbusters such as Mad Monkey Goes Ape, King Kong II and the latest installment of the Planet of the Apes franchise. |
